Available Workshops and Talks

• Parenting Skills Training for parents of difficult adolescents. This is appropriate for parents whose children are involved with the juvenile court system, have been or may be hospitalized or are have significant behavioral problems in school. It is 3-5 sessions of 2-2 1/2 hours each. Parents will learn how to organize themselves and support systems and develop a clear and simple plan or intervening with their child.

• Systemic Foster Care training. This is a one day training that focuses on organizing the system to work more efficiently and more quickly harness the strengths of parents and various workers in the system. Also emphasizes how to organize the system to decrease behavioral symptoms in the children. Can be tailored to specific needs of a program.

• Storytelling as an aid to healing. This 1/2 or full day workshop focuses on how to use stories with children, adults or families to aid in healing or re-creating their life path. Participants will not be expected to tell or create a story of their own but they will hear stories created for specific clients and discuss folktales that touch on areas of grief and loss, being different, foster care and other significant issues. Lists of healing stories and movies will be provided. How to create your own stories or create them with a client will be clearly outlined.

• Warning Signs: Youth Anti-Violence Initiative. A 45 min-1 1/2 hour program that includes a very powerful video and follow-up discussion aimed at adolescents and/or their parents on teen violence in schools, churches, PTA meetings or other youth/parent venues. It is free of charge. Visit the Southern Poverty Law Center for information on teaching tolerence.

• Other talks include: Anger management, Looking at ADHD in a positive framework, child management, sexual abuse issues, and parenting through divorce.
