About Michigan Family Institute, Inc.

Michigan Family Institute, Inc., located in Southfield, Michigan, was founded in 1983. It is a private free-standing institute providing consultation for indivicuals, mental health centers, psychiatric hospital outpatient programs, family service agencies, court-related programs, business management; outpatient counseling; and professional training for therapists in brief directive therapy.

Our Staff Includes:

Jerome A. Price, M.A., Director and Founder

A Regional Faculty Member of the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D.C., he is a well-known supervisor and brief therapist consulting for mental health centers, hospital medical and psychiatric staffs, and outpatient programs. His articles on many aspects of brief family-oriented therapy have been published in the Journal of Systemic Therapies, Utne Reader, Family Therapy Networker, Professional Counselor, and many other publications and newspapers. He is a contributing author to the books, Alternative Services in Community Mental Health, and The Evolving Therapist, and author of Power and Compassion: Working With Difficult Adolescents and Abused Parents (Guilford, 1996). An Approved Supervisor for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Mr. Price presents practical engaging workshops internationally.

Judith Margerum, Ph.D., Associate Director

Dr. Margerum has worked with families with difficult problems for 15 years in settings ranging from an adolescent inpatient unit to a runaway shelter. For over 10 years, she was consulting psychologist for a local foster care agency and is now in full-time private practice at the Institute. Her unique blend of brief family therapy with psychology has led to innovative methods for working with difficult families.
